One of the largest Dutch providers KPN found that many users still have the default password
welkom01 , which they were given during registration. The provider counted about
120 thousand users with the password welkom01 and another 20 thousand, in which the password matches the user name. It looks even sadder, if we consider that KPN has only 180 thousand users.
Theoretically, anyone could enter the Customer Self Center under someone else's login, look at the client’s personal data, bank account number, and change this information.
As a result, KPN decided to change passwords for 140 thousand users. The provider claims that for several years there have been no incidents with burglary of other people's accounts, and changing passwords is an exclusively preventive measure.
