The Fat Thumb - pinch-to-zoom one-finger replacement
We all loved pinch-to-zoom (this is when the content on the screen can be scaled with two fingers by dragging or pinching them).
But for sure, many of you are faced with a situation where the phone is used with one hand, and the second is busy. To dodge and make a multitouch gesture in this case is extremely problematic.
Canadian scientists from the University of Calgary offer to solve this problem using the proprietary method " Fat Thumb ", the essence of which lies in the fact that for zooming, you use your finger on the screen with the entire phalanx, and not just the tip of the pad. ')
The prototype is shown in the video:
Scientists even took into account the fact that when you use your thumb in different corners of the screen, you attach it differently, and made the appropriate amendments.
Moreover, special tests were conducted in which 24 different users were asked to cope with the task of “otzumit and center the selected fragment in full screen” while the elapsed time and the number of movements were counted.
The idea is interesting, but too controversial ... Firstly, the sensor needs to be calibrated. Secondly - we don’t always work with the same finger ... And what do girls with long nails do?
