PC / Mac sales ratio drops to 1985 level

Analyst Horace Dediu (Horace Dediu) from Asymco compiled a chart that compared the number of sales of computers under Windows and Mac OS for each year from 1984 to 2011 in a non-standard way.

The diagram shows how Apple began to abruptly lose ground after the release of Windows 95, with the peak of Microsoft domination in 2004, when it sold 182.5 million PCs and 3.25 million Macs.

Then the reverse trend began. Such a small multiplier, as now, has not been since the 90s of the last century.

It is important to note that if the chart took into account the iPhone and iPad, then by the number of sold the device, Microsoft and Apple would be almost equal .

Now iPad tablets have grown to the level of 11% of the PC market, and Android tablets have grown to 7%.
