Google in honor of the Internet Day in Russia, which has already become a tradition to celebrate on the last day of September, published a rating of Russian-language Zeitgeist queries, the interest in which in 2007 increased significantly compared to 2006. I’ll note right away that this is not a general rating of the most frequent and popular requests, namely the most “dynamically growing”.
The full version of the 10 requests that have gained popularity over the year is as follows:

Russian Railways
beeline
Harry Potter
wait for me
nokia
nissan

On the basis of this “hit parade”, one can make an impression what interest Russian-speaking Internet users have compared with last year. So, the top line of the ranking is occupied by Wikipedia, which is quite reasonable, since this service is gaining momentum at an enormous pace. The requests for “beeline”, “nokia” and “nissan” show exactly which companies from different fields of activity preferred users who sought information through Google. However, it also speaks about the marketing activity of these companies. Expected to be in the list got the request "Harry Potter" - the release of the seventh book of Rowling also did not leave Runet indifferent.

For referenceZeitgeist (from it. "Spirit of the time") is an attempt by Google to reflect the interests and mood of society through the analysis of queries and tracking search statistics on their domains in different countries of the world. Zeitgeist rating reflects the real interest of users to the listed items, that is, the number of requests for each of them for an equal period of time.
The Internet Day in Russia was first celebrated 9 years ago: on September 30, 1998, a kind of first “census of the Russian-speaking Internet population” was translated. At that time, the number of users was 1 million. Today this figure has grown almost 27 times.
