The Taiwanese company HTC
will be able to continue to import new smartphones in the United States, while specialists from the International Trade Commission will study the facts of a possible patent infringement by Apple (patent infringement by old devices was established in December, at the same time they imposed a ban on their import).
The patent covers the method of recognizing a phone number in an e-mail, so that by clicking on the text a program is automatically called to call or save the number in the phone book. HTC specialists said they managed to circumvent the patent and in the new models made a unique implementation of phone number recognition. Apple disagrees and insists that the new HTC models also violate the patent. Based on this, Apple ensured that the import of HTC smartphones was discontinued during the consideration of the case.
However, the International Trade Commission denied Apple’s request to ban the import of HTC devices during the dispute resolution period. Thus, a large batch of HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE devices detained by customs in May 2012 will be released from protection and allowed to be imported into the United States.

It should be noted that HTC smartphones were brought a few days before the estimated date for the start of sales of devices in the salons of Sprint Nextel. However, plans were thwarted, and now the start of sales will be delayed.
