Activision Blizzard sells for $ 8.1 billion

Against the background of the release of the long-awaited Diablo III, which became the best-selling PC game (3.5 million copies were sold in 24 hours), Activision Blizzard, also known for launching such successful projects as World of Warcraft and Starcraft, is planned to be sold by its owner, the French company Vivendi SA.

On December 2, 2007, Activision and Vivendi Games formed one company after the approval of shareholders and the permission of the US and EU regulators; Activision's price at that time was $ 18.9 billion. From that time, despite the release of obvious, well-selling and well-known hits, the cost of Vivendi shares fell by 28% (this spring, the price was cheaper for just nine years - € 12).

As a result, Moody's credit agency demanded that top managers get rid of the “non-core” business, threatening to seriously lower the company's credit rating. The matter is explained by the fact that Vivendi is a large media corporation and the presence of a profitable, but not relevant to the main profile of the company division, has a negative impact on the main business of the media conglomerate.

According to Vivendi’s plans, 61% of Activision Blizzard’s shares will be put up for sale at a price of $ 8.1 billion. In case such a large package is not sold, they can be sold off in parts (however, so as to avoid the emergence of majority shareholders) just put up for free sale on one of the European or American stock exchanges.
