Google I / O - ADK 2012 Presentation

As part of Google I / O 2012, in addition to a cheap tablet and the dubious utility of the device , an updated ADK platform (Android Accessory Development Kit) was presented, which should be especially interesting for DIY fans and those who are planning to create a device that interacts with an Android smartphone or tablet.

For those who are not familiar with the ADK yet, this is a device that supports the Android Open Accessory Protocol . In fact, it is an Arduino compatible platform that connects to an Android device via USB or Bluetooth and contains many sensors, sensors and indicators.

Google offers two applications:

Compared to ADK 2011, there have been a lot of changes.

ADK 2012 contains:
  1. Arduino compatible motherboard based on ARM 32-bit Cortex M3 microprocessor.
  2. Two USB. One to connect to the Android device, the second - for debugging and programming.
  3. Light, color, proximity, temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure and accelerometer sensors.
  4. SD card slot.
  5. Bluetooth support.
  6. Six seven-segment LED RGB matrix. 12 " party mode " LEDs.
  7. Capacitive slider (volume, brightness, etc.) and buttons - two for each digit and an additional eight.
  8. Amplifier sound and speaker.
  9. NFC mark available for writing.

But the most important thing that many have been waiting for a long time is the ability to play audio from an Android device via a USB connection. Requirements - Android 4.1 (API Level 16 and higher).

The ADK 2012 kit itself looks like a complete device in the form of an alarm clock and an audio dock function.

To work in this capacity, you must install the application of the same name from Google Play.

For quick access to the insides, the sides of the case are held on magnets.

The control board, despite ARM, is fully Arduino compatible.

All indicators, sensors and sensors are on a separate board, made in the form of Arduino shield.

In addition, a description of the updated API and new features is already available .

According to the good old tradition, all those present at Google I / O were distributed free of charge by the ADK 2012 kit. As far as I understood, such a kit is not planned for sale, however, it was said that all the software and the iron component under the Open Source license are already available for download , including files in Eagle format circuits and printed circuit boards.
