Bankrupt Elpida Memory bought for 2.5 billion dollars

The company Micron, which manufactures memory chips, has signed an agreement to buy the recently bankrupt Japanese company Elpida Memory. The amount of the transaction should be about 2.5 billion US dollars - the company being bought, as you know, was very large. True, most of the money will go to pay off the debts of Elpida Memory, so the actual amount of the transaction is somewhat less than the contractual amount.

Elpida Memory has several factories, one of which is located in Hiroshima. The buyer is going to invest about 1 billion dollars in this plant. It may well be that as a result of this purchase, the assets of Elpida Memory will give a second life, so to speak.

In any case, the purchase is a good opportunity for the bankrupt, Elpida Memory, and for the buyer. The first one pays its debts and gets a certain amount of money from above. The second increases the market share of the memory chip market, with Micron gaining access to Elpida technologies related to the production of chips for smartphones and tablets ... Apparently, if everything goes well, Micron will become the second largest manufacturer of memory chips. The first place is now occupied by the South Korean company Samsung.

Now the offer on the memory market sometimes exceeds demand, so Micron will have to try very hard to, so to speak, chew the resulting piece of cake. Well, if everything goes well, Micron will be one of the most influential players in this market.
