Foursquare is
trying to move a bit away from check-ins and rushing at full speed to a new life as an autonomous social network - with the possibility of passive positioning, adding biographical information about users to their profiles, using the timeline function with search by message history and restaurant recommendations.
Today, Foursquare announced the creation of the Connected App Platform, a platform on which developers will be able to create applications that will work within Foursquare itself, providing users with new features and services.

The service will be cross-platform, currently the APIs exist as a preview for developers, but Foursquare is already working with various partners to launch their services. Among them, for example, Eat This Not That, GroupMe and Untappd, all of them will work as "connected" applications inside Foursquare. Thus, after a chekina in a certain establishment, the user will have the opportunity, for example, to receive recommendations on dishes from Eat This Not That or to chat with others in GroupMe.

Foursquare says that work on the platform is still underway and asks developers to be creative, helping the company in its development. The official launch will take place this year - on Android, iOS and BlackBerry.
