Google Maps for Android has appeared offline mode

The developers of the Google Maps mobile application for Android OS have finally added the ability to work with maps without an Internet connection. Maps obtained online can now be saved for further work - and in the event of a lack of the Network, you can still navigate.

According to the development team, this mode is available for 150 countries of the world - this should be enough for users of mobile devices with Android on board. By the way, the ability to save maps exists not only for the current region where the user is located. If necessary, you can specify the desired region, and save the map for further work.

In addition to maps, the locator also works, the determination of the current location, and also an electronic compass remains in service. In general, this is good news - many users of the offline service didn’t have enough. True, some users who have tried out the new product report that there are some problems with loading maps - sometimes the maps are simply not saved. Other users report that, in some cases, various known objects and road names are not shown on offline maps. But these are trifles, which will obviously be corrected soon.

It is worth recalling that the announcement of the new function was held in early June, as reported on Habré. Now, the promises of developers are implemented in practice. Among other things, three-dimensional maps were also added, which was also reported on the June presentation. So you can update the Google Maps application on your Android phone, and try it all in “field” conditions.
