Nokia Developer Days: Day One

Hi, Habr!

Today and tomorrow we are holding the annual Nokia Developer Days conference for mobile developers on platforms used in Nokia devices.

The conference participants are mobile software developers and Nokia strategic partners. The event addresses issues of strategy and opportunities that Nokia offers to developers, as well as technologies to speed up the process of creating applications.

The first day of the event came to an end, and for those who could not attend the event and for some reason did not watch the online broadcast, we prepared a brief digest of all the presentations. A little later we will receive all the presentations and a video of the event, after which we will prepare a full report.

Do not forget that tomorrow you can watch the online broadcast of the second day.

Opening speech

Nokia Developer Days opened with his opening speech Sergey Rudenko, head of the department for interaction with developers in Eurasia from Nokia, and Michael Mixen Chernomordikov, head of the expert of experts on strategic technologies from Microsoft, who is well-known in Habré. Speakers told about the past, present and future of Windows Phone, focusing on the description of the new operating system Windows Phone 8, announced on the Windows Phone Summit a week ago. So the Nokia Developer Days conference opened.

Nokia Developer Features

After the opening speech, Naresh Chouhan, head of strategic marketing for developers from Nokia, came on the scene. He read a report about the capabilities of Nokia developers creating applications for various smartphone lines, including Nokia Asha and Nokia Lumia. Naresh noted on the presentation slides that for each of the platforms the number of downloads and purchases of applications are growing at a rapid pace, which is good news ;-)

Monetization and promotion of applications for Windows Phone

Then Mikhail Chernomordikov reappeared on the scene with a presentation about the monetization and promotion of applications written for Windows Phone. He explained in detail what means of promotion work and what does not. In his report, the structures and capabilities of the Windows Phone application store, which not so long ago passed the mark of 100 thousand applications, were reviewed. Michael presented various support programs in the promotion of applications (“The Magnificent Seven Applications ” on Habré) and talked about interaction with device manufacturers using the example of Nokia.

Best partner projects

Sergey Lutai Lutai, head of mobile applications development at Digital Cloud Technologies , told how his company managed to change its business direction from developing web projects to creating mobile applications. Continuing the topic of monetization started by Chernomordikov, the speaker spoke about the development and monetization of applications after their publication in the Windows Phone Marketplace: the need to use notifications, live tiles, the need to update and a trial mode.

Geo-location services

Sergey Rudenko finished the first day of the Nokia Developer Days conference with his report on geolocation services. In his speech, Sergey spoke about the current state of Nokia cards (coverage of 200 countries, 1.5 million cities and 25 million streets) and shared plans for the development of maps and opportunities that application developers for Windows Phone 8 will receive in the very near future (for example, independent developers will be able to use Nokia offline maps in their applications). Sergey spoke about the methodology of calculating traffic jams and Nokia map creation technologies, the Nokia Maps API and the use of maps in web projects (Maps API for JS) and on various platforms used in Nokia smartphones from Nokia Asha (Maps API for Java ME) to Nokia Belle (QT Maps API).

Tomorrow there will be the second day of the Nokia Developer Days conference, which will also be broadcast on the Nokia Developer website. You can watch the broadcast on June 29 from 10:00 o'clock.
