MTS will cut torrents

Mobile operator MTS announced the change in the terms of communication services from June 30, 2012 on the tariff options "BIT", "SuperBIT", "Everything You Need" and their modifications. As stated in the official statement, “the provision of some actively used communication protocols will be limited to prevent overloading of the general network infrastructure and ensure high-quality network operation”.

Marina Akulich, MTS blog-secretary, explained that we are talking about restricting torrents, and Skype and other VoIP services will not be affected.

"The massive use of certain Internet resources leads to an increase in the load on the network, which reduces the speed of data transmission for all users of the network," the operator justifies his actions.

MTS recommends users of torrent networks “to support a larger volume of requests to connect any of the tariff options Unlimited Mini, Unlimited Maxi, Unlimited Super, Unlimited VIP, or any Turbo Button service” .

Of course, this policy of the Internet provider is fundamentally contrary to the rules of network neutrality, which, unfortunately, have not yet been defined in Russia at the legislative level.
