Google Tablet Nexus 7 officially submitted (upd)

Today at Google’s I / O conference in San Francisco, Google officially unveiled its own Nexus 7 tablet ( official page ).

As it became known earlier, the tablet is built on a quad-core processor with a frequency of 1.3Ghz, a 12-core Tegra 3 video processor and 1GB RAM. It will be equipped with a 1.2 megapixel front camera, NFC technology, as well as 8 and 16GB internal memory to choose from. Screen - 7-inch panel with a resolution of 1280x800. The promised work time is 8 hours. The dimensions of the tablet are 198.5 x 120 x 10.45mm. The tablet is manufactured by Asus.

The tablet will be controlled by the new version of the operating system Android 4.1, codenamed Jelly Bean , which was presented at the same conference.

Price for the younger model - $ 199. Model with 16GB memory will cost $ 250. The start of deliveries is mid-July.

It is assumed that the tablet will become the basis for the consumption of content from the Google Play store. It presents not only programs, but also magazines, books, music and TV shows. If so, then its direct competitor - Amazon Kindle Fire, which marked the beginning of the release of low-cost high-quality tablets running on Android, can safely retire.

UPD. The first brief review from Gizmodo + Photos

The first thing you notice is that it is incredibly solid. Rigid aluminum edges and rubberized back ; In his hand, he lies extremely securely. Fits easily into a jacket pocket and even into a jeans pocket (although I would not recommend trying). Front-camera; There is no rear camera, and this is good, because there is nothing to photograph with a tablet. Swing sound control, power button, micro USB and headphone jack. Unfortunately, there is no possibility to connect a memory card, but this is not such a problem when Google’s cloud services are at hand.

Loads extremely fast. The screen is bright and clear. Scrolling is just perfect - extremely smooth.

OS JellyBean looks great and uses the entire screen space extremely efficiently. On the main screen are six program icons, plus an icon for calling the application screen.

Of course, Nexus 7 still needs to be driven to understand what it costs, but the first verdict is this: there is no longer any excuse to buy a Kindle Fire. Nexus 7 is brighter, sharper, faster and definitely more efficient ...
