GSMA launches SMS alert system for roaming tariffs

The GSM Association (GSMA), which includes a number of the world's largest telecommunications operators such as AT & T, Verizon, Deutsche Telekom, China Unicom, has begun to introduce tools for the operation of the worldwide roaming alert system and its conditions for end users.

Many people remember the story of how a certain couple, while on holiday in Crete, pumped out several series of "Interns" in roaming and paid for it with a million bill from one of the Russian PPSOs; then everything for young people ended well, although it was not without trial. However, in order to avoid such sad incidents in the future, GSMA signs contracts with 24 major operators around the world (among this list you can find VimpelCom and MTS), according to which the operator, after finding a terminal in his network that uses a SIM card of another operator , will have to send a mandatory SMS notification about roaming tariffs. Although some companies already support such a system (for example, Deutsche Telekom), Franco Bernabè, the head of the GSMA, says that the introduction of such an initiative for more than a billion users who are served by the operators in the association will only useful and will allow you to avoid not only misunderstandings, but also lawsuits with considerable payments.

In addition to SMS alerts, it is also planned to systematically introduce two other possibilities: the first of them allows the operator to set a monthly limit for using data in roaming in the operator’s home network and also send alerts when the limit is at the end; The second possibility is more radical - a temporary suspension of the provision of services in roaming, if some financial limit or traffic limit is also exceeded.
