Americans have created a sensitive "skin" for the robot

In most science fiction works (including movies and books), robots can feel no worse than humans. Sometimes, much better than their biological "ancestors". Until now, robotics have worked mainly to create a model of a robot that can perform part of the functions that are common to humans. For example, file or bring something (we are talking about humanoid, non-industrial, robots). So far, the robots are not very well versed in what and how to take and give. But the situation may change.

The fact is that a group of developers from the University of Southern California created a special sensor capable of “teaching” the robot to touch and feel very well. The sensor looks like a finger, and even the pattern on the surface of the "finger" is.

The sensor "feels" something due to the effect of microvibration when the device touches any surface. These vibrations are read by the built-in piezoelectric element, which transmits signals to the receiving equipment. The sensor software analyzes the result and determines the surface to which the finger has touched. According to scientists, the effectiveness of this device is very high. Already, the system works with 117 different types of surfaces.
