Canonical asked to do support for Retina-displays

The mailing lists for Canonical developers involved in Ubuntu development have asked for support for high-resolution displays with this distribution.

The reason for this appeal was the experiment of Linux enthusiast Alan Bell, who installed Ubuntu on a new MacBook Pro, which, as you know, is equipped with a Retina-display and whose resolution is 2880x1800 pixels or 220 dots per inch.

It turned out that Ubuntu is not ready to maintain such a high quality of the screen - the Unity panel on the Retina has a width of 6 mm (despite the fact that the width setting range was from 4 to 8 mm), and the top panel was reduced to a total of 3 mm.

How Ubuntu looks on MacBook Pro can be estimated in the screenshot below:

Alan says that, given the fact that Apple has become the founder of high-tech popular trends many times (just remembering the iPhone and iPad), we should expect that the release of high-resolution displays from other manufacturers is not far off, and Canonical, as the manufacturer of one of the most popular Linux distributions, you need to prepare for this in advance.
