Samsung promises to put an orchestra in the phone

Samsung Electronics announced the launch of a new serial production of an unusual phone, developed in conjunction with the Danish manufacturer of equipment company Bang & Olufsen. Phone Samsung Serenata is equipped with sliding speakers with high-quality study of low frequencies and built-in memory of 4 GB. The novelty will be released in limited edition and will go on sale in autumn 2007.

Samsung Electronics is launching the serial production of the Samsung Serenata music phone, developed jointly with Bang & Olufsen. From all other music solutions on the market, the phone is different in design. Outwardly, it looks more like an unusual music player. Additional similarities with the player creates a navigation scroll wheel like the one used in Apple players. However, here it is located not under the screen, but above it.

The main advantage of the new phone is the built-in acoustic stereo system, which extends from the body like half a slider. But, again, not down, like a keyboard in all phones, but upwards, thus allowing the device to be securely fixed in a vertical position on the table. Samsung argue that working together with Bang & Olufsen engineers has created a truly high-quality stereo system that is capable of providing adequate bass sound reproduction in a mobile device. By the way, the screen in the device is a touchscreen, it is quite likely that it will have to replace the traditional numeric keypad. Since the phone is positioned as a musical solution, 4 GB of internal memory is not at all redundant, which can be expanded with a microSD slot. Another important feature of the new phone, which will certainly be appreciated by users of third-generation mobile networks, is support for high-speed data transfer, HSDPA, which allows uploading files or web pages at speeds up to 1.8 Mbps.

The phone will be released in a limited edition, the amount of which has not been reported, and will go on sale in late October or early November 2007. The price of new items is also unknown.

Samsung Serenata is the second product developed jointly with the Danish manufacturer of prestigious electronics Bang & Olufsen. In 2005, the companies presented to the public their first device, the Samsung Serene. The phone was made in the form of a "clamshell" and had a keyboard resembling a dial. Due to the very unusual performance and the absence of any multimedia functions, the phone has not gained wide recognition.

Combining Samsung with a high-end hardware manufacturer is not the only example on the mobile phone market. It is worth remembering the Nokia N91 smartphone, the sound system of which was developed by engineers from the American company Harman Kardon, which specializes in the production of Hi-Fi class audio equipment.
