Larry Ellison acquires the island in Hawaii

Oracle Corporation CEO Larry Ellison bought the sixth (its area is 364 km 2 , the length is 30 km in the largest direction), the largest island of the Hawaiian Lanai archipelago. He will own 98% of the island.

According to unofficial data, the cost of the island may be about 500-600 million dollars. However, the exact purchase price is not yet known.

The Governor of the US state of Hawaii, Neil Abercrombie, expressed his joy to a landowner who not only does business, but also invests in science, especially research in the field of oceanology. Larry Ellison, in particular, together with Nobel laureate in the field of biology, Joshua Lederberg, founded the Ellison Medical Foundation. Billionaire also enjoys yachting, in 2010, he even won the America's Cup in this sport, and then acquired the rights to hold the 2013 America's Cup final for San Francisco.

The island is also known as the “Pineapple Island” because of the pineapple plantation that used to occupy most of the island in the past. Now it is a fashionable resort with two complexes of Four Seasons hotels, golf courses, luxury housing and a solar-powered power station.

In 1994, Microsoft founder Bill Gates chose Lanai as a wedding destination, having booked all rooms on its territory. The population of Lanai is just over 3 thousand people. 98% of the island is owned by Castle & Cooke Inc. billionaire David Murdoch.

It is expected that the formal permission of the authorities to deal with Larry Ellison will be issued on June 26.
