Fast creation of 3D images from ordinary photos - technology from Japan

Now every day there is a huge amount of new technologies, including the scope of both hardware and software. It is impossible to keep track of everything, too many things. But sometimes there are developments that can not be ignored. This technology was recently presented by the developers at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. The Japanese have developed a fairly fast and efficient technology for creating 3D images on a PC from ordinary photographs obtained by a digital soap box.

At the same time, special equipment is not required, only a PC with the appropriate software, a camera, and an Eye-Fi memory card transmitting the received images to the PC “over the air” are needed. As a result, a full-fledged 3D image is formed from a number of ordinary photographs. In general, there are similar technologies, but here everything is done on the fly, very quickly. At the same time, if the received photos are not enough to build a 3D image, the program itself will say that more photos are needed.

The system, created by the Japanese, estimates the position of the camera during the creation of each shot. To bring the photos together and create a three-dimensional image, the system searches for key points on the “neighboring” images. The developers say that their project is at the initial stage, it still needs to be improved and finalized. However, the system is already working, and it is working well.
