The Washington Post, citing unnamed Western officials,
reported that the Flame spyware virus was developed jointly by US and Israeli experts to obtain information that could be useful in disrupting the Iranian nuclear program.
Actually, this is not a big surprise, since last week the experts
presented convincing evidence that the Flame developers collaborated with the developers of another complex worm called Stuxnet, which was aimed at the Iranian nuclear enrichment program in Natanz. A week earlier, the New York Times
published the first confirmation that Stuxnet was created in the United States and Israel, then the developers lost control of it ... Flame is part of the secret Olympic Games program that spawned Stuxnet, reports Washington Post journalists.
Thus, it is safe to say that the first full-scale computer sabotage campaign against US opponents has been launched, which is supported by the two presidents of this country. By the way, the publication apparently will harm the interests of the United States, because the authorities of this country are publicly in favor of limiting the cyber arms race.
Flame gained fame after Iranian engineers discovered an attack on refineries. According to the report, the attack was carried out unilaterally by Israel, which, according to Western officials who reported this on condition of anonymity, took the American partners by surprise. This episode prompted the Iranians to take countermeasures, as a result of which Flame was discovered. Some US intelligence officials
tore their hair out of rage and were very unhappy that the actions of their Israeli colleagues led to the disclosure of the virus.
