Some thoughts on Metro in the desktop

I put my wife on the HP tm2-1070us last pre-release of Windows 8 coming in the fall. She is an average user, plays toys, gets documents in the office, and so on.

The first sketch

The wife categorically does not want to work in the Metro environment. When you turn on the computer, it first presses the Desktop tile and opens the firefox. From her point of view, the Metro does not exist. A couple of times I suggested that she try to figure out, to which she replied that the Metro annoyed her, she didn’t understand anything there, and in general she had to do the work and not solve the puzzle.

The second sketch

She opens the PowerPoint presentation, somehow Makar returns back to the browser, and ... calls me. Where does my presentation say? Why is it not in the taskbar? Well, I quickly realized that the powerpoint is apparently fashionable, it works strictly in the Metro. He said here with a mouse hover in the upper-left corner and there he pops out. It took 20 years for progress to pass from a convenient taskbar to a rectangle that pops up if you hover the cursor randomly. If I didn’t know about Metro, I would have decided that some software has a buggy render.

Well, the little things

Thought it was funny that to turn off the computer you need to press Start? Now it's even funnier - you need to click on your name, then Log out, and only then Shut down.

The integration of Metro into the desktop is completely disgusting. Not only that, visually, the Metro and the desktop are both children's coloring and paintings, and it is impossible to turn off this metro. From the taskbar removed the Start button, in the corners it is better not to start the cursor, otherwise you will run into pop-up crap.

Browser in two modes? What idiot came up with it? This means that if I fill in a multipage form, and then I need to install some kind of plugin, then when I switch to the desktop, I will lose all the entered data!

A mixture of metro and non-metro apps is just hellish. Some applications are in the taskbar, others are hidden around the corner of the screen (see above for powerpoint). Imagine how much confusion it will cause, say, your parents.

In conclusion, I will say - I am not against progress, and I really like the Metro on a tablet or on the phone. But hands off my computer!
