UPD: At 3:52 you can see a demonstration on Linux.

I think the animation system deserves more, but I want to focus on the 3rd point.

Linux question and answer

original

Why is Linux right now?

Linux players are a great example of social movement in Unity. More than two years ago, developers began to spend free time to transfer the engine to Linux. The porting process progressed slowly, but it was constant during these two years. At Ninja Camp, these developers spent a week on further porting and by the end of the week, they were able to show a convincing demonstration. By combining this with the recent commercial success of games on Linux, for example, the Humble Indie Bundle and the games sold in the Ubuntu Application Center, it became clear that we must give our customers a chance to enter this market that is hungry for games.

Why still can not see?

Support for new platforms is not an easy task - especially for those with a wide range of software and hardware. It takes a lot of testing and feedback before we can be sure that the quality has been up to par and we can release the final version. However, this should not stop you from using the engine. Many games will be able to work without specific problems on most modern Linux systems, but you can always send problems that appear to us so that we can fix them for a win-win situation for everyone.

The option of publishing under Linux, like everyone else, in terms of use?

Yes! To export to Linux, simply select “PC, Mac, & Linux Standalone” in the “Build Settings” menu, then select Linux-player as the final player and click on the build button.

Do I have to pay for it?

No, it will be free as publishing options for PC or Mac.

Why do you call the publishing option as “Linux standalone desktop"?

Because Linux (as an operating system) runs on different types of devices, but this export option is designed specifically for 32 and 64 bit desktop systems.

What software / hardware configuration will be supported?

While exported games can work on most modern Linux systems, we (for the time being) provide official support for Ubuntu 10.04 or older versions, and a graphics card with drivers from the manufacturer.

Push

I have been waiting for a long time, although I am not developing anything on Unity3D, when this game engine is being ported under GNU \ Linux, and now, it seems, I have waited.
Unfortunately, we are talking only about building native applications under GNU \ Linux, there will be no version of the editor. I hope in the near future she will also appear.
