Kinect + DSLR = 3D filming

The Kinect game controller, as you know, works on the basis of an infrared projector with monochrome CMOS mainland - it is quite suitable for the role of a 3D scanner for composing three-dimensional models. If you connect Kinect to a digital camera and process the result in a special program, you can create very unusual cinematic effects. This is the purpose of the open source software package RGBD Toolkit ( project on github ).

The Eyeo festival of digital art took place a week ago with the presentation of the Clouds documentary dedicated to programmers and the beauty of code. This will be the first movie made using the RGBD Toolkit video editor.

The heroes of the film - programmers - tell us how they feel when creating new programs, designing systems, optimizing the DBMS. These are feelings of omnipotence, creativity and freedom. A bunch of Kinect + DSLR gives a surreal effect, as if the characters in the film do not belong to the physical world, but are a kind of embodiment of pure reason. Probably, the authors sought such an effect (see video).
