Motorola Solutions buys Psion

At one time, Psion PDAs were extremely popular. Not so long ago, a review of one of the PDAs from Psion, released back in 1999, appeared on Habré. At one time, this company was more popular than Palm, so there — very few people could compete with Psion in the field of business PDAs at the time. But it did not go further, and the company could not become as popular as it could. Although luggage, so to speak, behind the "shoulders" Psion considerable.

For example, it is Psion that has the rights to the “Netbook” trademark both in the USA and in Europe - agree, a considerable advantage in our time. The company received the right to a trademark after the release of the Netbook Pro device in 2003 (the device’s photo is shown in the announcement photo). Over the years, the company began to work only in one direction - in the creation of secure mobile devices, mainly for corporations.

Psion, in principle, is still a fairly large manufacturer of mobile devices. The company employs 830 employees, Psion sells its equipment in 50 countries of the world. And in 2011, the company's revenue amounted to 273 million US dollars. So Motorola buys not a dilapidated and bankrupt company, but a normal, actively operating mobile device manufacturer.

As for Motorola Solutions, this company has agreed to buy Psion for a considerable amount - $ 200 million. This, of course, is not 13 billion, as is the case with Google’s purchase of Motorola Mobility, but the scale is different. As for the transaction, it will be fully closed by the end of 2012.
