Adobe acquired Virtual Ubiquity for an unnamed amount along with its text editor Buzzword, which means it entered the office software market and will compete with Microsoft, Zoho and Google. Buzzword is an online text editor that allows multiple authors to work on texts, created on Adobe Flex using Adobe AIR. Thanks to the latest factors, Buzzword can work in Flash-players on various operating systems, besides, offline.
Currently, Buzzword can work with documents in DOC, RTF and XML formats, but Adobe promises to add support for PDF formats (the Buzzword will complement the
Create PDF service) and ODF.
Erik Larson, director of product marketing and product management for Adobe, said the company is going to make the application free for corporate users of premium premium services.
