Microsoft has released an alternative to Google Docs

Microsoft has begun to translate its office suite to an online platform. Today, a beta version of Office Live Workspace opened, which is a collaborative online document repository where users can copy and share their files. From October 1, preliminary tester beta testers registration on the site began, and each of them will be notified about the full opening of the service by email.

The developers promise that you can use Office Live Workspace document hosting not only with Office 2007 and Office XP, but also with OpenOffice, StarOffice and others.

Online office applications in recent years have been developing at a rapid pace, and Microsoft could not stand idly by. It finally became clear what strategy the company’s management had chosen. This is a careful addition of online functionality to desktop programs. If the strategy proves its viability, then in the future the appearance of online versions of popular office applications MS Word, MS Excel, etc. is quite possible.

Office Live services are designed for small businesses and individual users. Corporations are encouraged to use another online product - Office Online, which combines SharePoint, Exchange and Office Communications Services. Thus, by now two pairs of direct competitors have been formed.

According to the plans of the developers, Office Live Workspace after its official launch will remain free, at least in the basic functionality. Perhaps premium premium features will be introduced, for example, to store files over a limit of 1000 pieces, or something else.

The Office Live Workspace system will be based on the same infrastructure as the Windows Live service, including shared contact lists, diary entries, etc. Over time, this unified infrastructure will also include an innovative tool for real-time collaboration Tahiti (also called Microsoft Shared View), which began testing in March of this year .
