Andy Rubin, the founding father and “vice president of Android” at Google, announced on his Twitter account that he achieved another record by the mobile operating system — 900,000 mobile phones and tablets on Android are now activated on the day.

The last time Google announced the number of activations at the Mobile World Congress in February was 850,000.

Is Android approaching its maximum propagation speed? Obviously yes. During the first six months in 2011, the number of activations increased by 44% - from 300,000 to 500,000, in the second half of the year we saw about the same growth. It is not difficult to calculate that in the first six months of 2012 the number of activations increased by only 6%.
Just a few days ago, IDC released its
forecast for the development of mobile systems and it also says that the era of rapid Android growth in the smartphone market is coming to an end. According to IDC, in 2016 Android will still remain a major player in the market, but its share will decrease from 61% to 53%. Windows Phone will take second place with 19.2% of the market, while iOS and BlackBerry will get roughly equal shares and will share third place.
