Hello, habrazhiteli!
I want to share my statistical observations regarding two almost identical applications for Windows Phone 7. With the only significant difference being that one of them is in English, and the second is in Russian.
When both applications scored 2,500 thousand downloads, I decided to collect user feedback statistics on applications for different markets.
')
I wish there were only good grades and comments, but what about the real situation - under habrakat.
I note that both applications are completely free. In the English version there is insignificant advertising, but the number of impressions is less than the number of downloads, so whether it makes sense to consider it essential - on the conscience of the reader.
The first thing that caught my attention was the large gulf between the place of application of a common top for different markets. Obviously, if it were a single, bilingual application, things would be somewhat better. But there is a gap, and it is very large.
| Russian version | English version |
---|
Place on the Marketplace | 16 204 | 2,216 |
Place in category | 2,316 | 725 |
Days on the Marketplace | 55 | 27 |
All time downloads | 2,486 | 2,504 |
Of course, the fact that firstly there are more English-speaking countries plays here, and secondly, the platform is popular there. However, if Microsoft says that there are about 100,000 applications on the market, the difference in absolute 14% is significant.
Secondly, between app evaluations and its activity is also an abyss.

It turns out that users of the English version are less likely to leave ratings, and more often comment on it. In this case, often use the entire gradation of assessments. Russian-speaking users often leave high marks and less often comment on them.
What causes this: the high expectations of English-speaking users, the lack of Russian-language applications on the market, the phase of the moon or the weather on Mars - I do not know.
To summarize all of the above, then:
- It is easier to get to the top by publishing an English-language application.
- Russian-speaking users are more loyal to applications
