Web-interfaces without using the mouse wheel

Do you find touch interfaces convenient? I think you think. After all, it is really convenient to communicate with the interface on “you”. Why do we need a mediator in our communication? Why complicate things?

The other day, the thought crept into my head that it would be nice to try to implement something similar on an ordinary web page. Let not the touch, due to the fact that you still have to manipulate the cursor with the mouse, but some simplification, giving the user the opportunity to go a step closer to the interface with which he interacts.

The essence of the simplification is that the user, being on the page of the site, can hold down the left mouse button and move the page to the desired height. In my opinion, less energy is spent on a click and a slight movement of a brush than on a wheel's torsion. Imagine what you need to do in order to twist the wheel: lift your finger, move it to the right, twist the wheel and put your finger back into place (in most cases). You already see how much micro movements need to be done for such a simple task. And how many times a day do you have to make such movements? I propose a simpler option - just two movements: click and drag the mouse. Such movements are easier and do not distract from the main thing - from the information for which we come. And this crackle when scrolling, especially in cheap mice, do you hear? For example, it distracts me. Try, compare two variants of page flip, mine and traditional. I think you will notice the difference.

I will show you an example ( need to download the file ). Text selection is forcibly blocked, as there are some problems in the implementation, but this should not prevent you.

I just want to note that I am not a programmer and I don’t need to say that my code is poorly written. I myself suspect that this is so. The second remark is that perhaps such an idea has already been implemented somewhere and somewhere, but for a short while I did not find anything out of Google, and therefore this article was written.

I will listen to your opinions and suggestions with great pleasure. Well, or you can throw me rotten tomatoes, your business.

Thanks for attention!

UPD: Despite that, you, dear users of Habr, spoiled my rating, I want to thank you for your opinions. Thank!
