Worldwide Start IPv6 Day

Today, June 6, 2012, the main providers, manufacturers of home networking equipment and Internet companies all over the world have united to turn on IPv6 for their products and services in parallel with IPv4.

The worldipv6launch.org website claims that today’s Worldwide IPv6 Launch Day, organized by the Internet Society and based on the successful celebration of World IPv6 Day on June 8, 2011, represents an important milestone in global IPv6 deployment. As the successor to the current Internet Protocol IPv4, IPv6 is crucial for the continued growth of the Internet as a platform for innovation and economic development.

In February 2011, IANA ran out of addresses for distribution to regional registrars. According to one of the fathers of the Internet Vint Cerf, although some devices can already share the same address (the home router works as a switch for the devices in your home), if IPv6 is not implemented, you will soon have to share one address with several people or even with the whole area .

Full transition will take some time. Some users may need to upgrade their home routers or upgrade their operating system software to enable IPv6 in parallel with IPv4. If you are interested to know when you get an IPv6 connection (if not already ), Vint Cerf recommends that you ask your provider.
