Apparently, the Computex exhibition in Taipei is in full swing. Where actually came the news from ARM.
20-nm chips may appear in smartphones by the end of next year, said the head of ARM.
More advanced chips should allow device manufacturers to improve the performance of their products without reducing battery life, or leave the same performance, but with longer battery life.
ARM does not manufacture its own chips. It licenses its projects to companies such as Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and NVIDIA, which in turn are outsourcing chip production to TSMC in Taiwan.
Qualcomm said it faces a shortage in the latest Snapdragon S processors, which are used in HTC smartphones and Lenovo tablets. The problem is the lack of 28-nanometer production capacity.

However, the transition to a new process is difficult for any company and delays are always possible.
Computex this year is a big event for ARM. Microsoft developed the first version of its Windows PC operating system, which runs on ARM processors, called Windows RT, and is expected to show the first tablet on ARM.
