“The power of SAN (Storage Area Network) in the palm of your hand,” says
Fusion-io about its new ioDrive. And not without reason. The ioDrive is a PCI Express NAND flash memory expansion card that acts as a local data store. The main thing in the new product (except for installation in a PCI Express x4 slot, of course) is its performance, which is 100,000 I / O operations per second. And the read and write speed shown in testing the ioDrive operating in the HP BladeSystem c-Cl chassis was 800 Mbps and 600 Mbps, respectively. Apparently, once again we can start discussing the topic of replacing disk drives with something more advanced, fast and reliable. In this case, on ioDrive.

New storage developed by Fusion-io specialists based on proprietary ioMemory technology. Unfortunately, it was not possible to find a detailed description of this technology (the company's website, to put it mildly, is not informative). It is only known that the ioDrive installation is “transparent” for servers and workstations and does not require changes in applications and infrastructure. Add this to the "advantages" of the device. According to the company, high performance and dual functionality of the new product, according to Fusion-io, will save consumers from the need to purchase hard drives with fiber-optic interfaces, switches, RAID controllers and other SAN components. All this can be replaced with an ioDrive device.
The company Fusion-io plans to begin shipping the device by the end of this year. To begin with, models with 40, 80, 160 and 320 GB on board will be implemented. In the future, a 640-gigabyte ioDrive is planned. The cost of the device, however, is not known.
