Colleagues!

As promised, sum up the competition . Thanks to everyone who participated.

The main prize - a program for auditing NetWrix Active Directory Active Directory Change Reporter - for the best story, according to our jury, is received by the ToSsh user for this story.

It happened this year, 2005.
')
Once upon a time there was an office for 300 with users hooked up. Everything is as it should be: Windows Server 2003 + AD, file server, terminal server, mail server on FreeBSD - all on a separate piece of hardware.

There was also a young and naive Siberian young man who worked in one of the first outsourcing company at that time.

As it so happened, but in the office there was only one domain controller. Well, it was a pity for the management of money for "just in case that might not happen."
On one “beautiful” day, users could not log in to their PCs. "Domain controller is not available."
Go to the call fell to me. The server was turned off, at boot issued "Insert a hard disk or boot floppy." Oh yes, there was no raid either, yes ... And there was no NT backup ... I reported this regrettable fact to the management of the office, chided "thrift" (I was young, yes I was impudent :)). I made it so that "at least 1C worked" and took the server to the office.

The cause of the fall was the dying hard drive that was terribly popping and vibrating while working. I don’t know what kind of dances and methods, but the hard drive was copied completely. But what to do next?
My boss told me, - Disassemble yourself. And I then all once raised AD and then 10 users.

The decision has come.
Taking a new disk, installed a new Win2003 Server on it. How now to restore AD, user credentials, permissions? I really didn’t want to start everything from scratch.
Boot from the LiveCD, from the copy I took and replaced the folders Windows, Program Files and Doc & Settin on the new disk.

I admit, when copying was completed, with shaking fingers, I pressed the reboot. But ... It worked! The server rose, AD works. All tests server passed. In the morning I was already working at my place, and I left to sleep ...

Unfortunately, the audience award - the Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet - we cannot award, since none of the relevant stories that were left in the comments have any positive voices. We are very sorry that it happened.

Dear ToSsh , please write to us in PM to receive the program as a gift.

Thank you all for participating!
