Google tablet still exists

Today, the tablet from Google appeared in the databases of the popular RightWare Basemark ES 2.0 Taiji benchmark, thanks to which there are already more or less accurate hardware characteristics of the tablet, and it also became known for sure that ASUS is a Google partner for the release of the Nexus tablet. As expected, this is a system on an NVIDIA Tegra 3 chip, a screen with a resolution of 1280x768 (maybe a bit higher if you use a touch panel like in the Galaxy Nexus) and the Android 4.1 operating system.

Now I will turn on my Murtazin and give the sofa analyst. Judging by the frequency stated on the Rightware website, the younger tablet (no justification to use a telephone) Tegra 3 T30L type chip (used in the Transformer Pad TF300) will be used. The market is currently also present Tegra T30 (Transformer Prime TF201), which has higher frequencies. NVIDIA also releases the T33 chip, but for now it is not used anywhere, it is possible that it is reserved for FullHD tablets.
For me, the choice of Tegra 3 is a rather strange decision, given that the tablet will most likely be aimed at North America, Australia and the Eurozone. The fact is that Tegra 3 does not have a built-in 4G-modem LTE, but only 3G. It’s impossible to insert third-party, apparently, due to discrepancies in specifications, and NVIDIA Icera is only being certified by FCC and AT & T, so the choice of Qualcomm Krait would be more logical, although on the other hand, NVIDIA managed to build Tegra Zone infrastructure around its chip, which in Qualcomm and Texas Instruments failed. It will be completely strange if the tablet is released only in the version with Wi-Fi.

In the Android 4.1 operating system, the guys from Android Police suspected Jelly Bean, but this is rather strange, I think. The fact is that the versions of the 2.x branch each had its own name: 2.1 - Eclair, 2.2 - Froyo, 2.3 - Gingerbread; in the 3.x branch, everything changed - that 3.0, that 3.1, that 3.2 - all were called Honeycomb. That is, I believe, Google will continue to bend this line, and the new dessert will not be presented. If it is, then most likely with an index already 5.0. But it will be a very strange step for the bureaucracy of partners who have just figured out and trumpeted the calendar for Ice Cream Sandwich, and then Jelly Bean will be their new headache. Confusion will start even that. Therefore, in my opinion, Google will switch from 4.0.x to 4.1.x, and this will end the story until the fall.

As for the price, if Google manages to keep its promises about $ 200-250, then I have a bad feeling about modders. Despite the oath promises of NVIDIA top managers about $ 200 tablets, the cheapest tablet on the weakest version of Tegra 3 costs around $ 350. Therefore, most likely Google will take over the tablet subsidization, and this will result in a tivoization and a hard vendor lock-in. And this means that the maximum that can be waited on from Google is the source code of the useless kernel. The loader will be blocked, sideloading is prohibited, so Cyanogen Mod, AOKP or MIUI there will not have to wait. If Google does not do this, then selling ASUS tablets from Google will be at a loss if, of course, the tablets do not fly away like hotcakes, and the percentage of modals will be insignificant against the background of total sales.

But how everything will turn out in reality, we will most likely find out on Google I / O in June. Not long left.
