Free licenses for open source projects and educational institutions

Hi, Habr!

Many developers use our products both at work and in their own projects, but, what to hide, do not always do it legally. Some universities have to use only free software versions, while there is a real opportunity to get a one-year license for the commercial version of any JetBrains product.

How to do this in practice and is dedicated to this post.

Disclaimer: Having carefully studied the Buy & Upgrade and Licensing & Upgrade sections on JetBrains website, you can safely ignore further text.

There are exactly 2 categories of users who can apply for free licenses:
1) these are open source free software developers;
2) educational institutions.

Who can count on getting a free open source license?
This license is intended for true enthusiasts who develop non-commercial open source products.

You can get an open source license if:

If you provide any paid services or release paid versions, the issue of granting or not giving you a free license is at the discretion of the license manager.

How to apply for a free license for open source projects:
1) Make sure that you meet the following criteria:

2) Provide information about yourself and your project using the online form in the appropriate section on the site.

Application forms for obtaining open source licenses for a particular product may differ, therefore we provide here links to all possible options:

Instructions for obtaining a license will be sent by e-mail after consideration and approval of the application.

Open source license terms and conditions:

The software can be installed on any number of computers and used by any number of participants in the open source project during the year. Software can not be used for any commercial purposes or projects.

The license is granted for a period of 1 year and includes free updates to all new software releases during this period. License renewal is available upon request.

The ability to use the software is granted to the licensee without the right to transfer the software to third parties.

Details you can find in the license agreements of the corresponding product on our website.

With the provision of our products for education, everything is somewhat simpler.

A study or “classroom” license is provided for full-featured versions of commercial products and allows them to be used during classroom and independent work by faculty / faculty members, as well as students of this school.

A university (or other educational institution) may install licensed software on any number of computers in its classrooms and allow any number of users to work with them under this license. University students also have the opportunity to use the JetBrains software for learning and independent work at home. All other restrictions are similar to those listed above.

We are ready to facilitate the process of obtaining licenses to the universities interested in cooperation. An employee of an educational institution needs to write an application letter to classroom@jetbrains.com in free form. The process will go very quickly if this letter indicates the full name of the organization, its location, the list of products required for training, which courses they will be involved in, as well as the name, position and contacts of the person who will be responsible for further negotiations.

Here, perhaps, in brief, that's all.
Thanks for attention! Develop with pleasure!
