Electronic door peephole

Recently, an amusing device has appeared on the market - an electronic door peephole that fits into the place of a regular peephole at any door. The device is called "Eye". It costs about 3,500 rubles.

The peephole consists of two parts - external and internal.
')

On the outside of the camera, a bell button, an infrared LED and a light sensor.

The outer part is fastened from the inside with a plate and two screws.

The cable connects to the internal circuit board.

And it snaps onto the ledges of the mounting plate. On the door, upholstered in vinyl leather, like mine, it is quite difficult to install the indoor unit. It turned out that it is easier to do this without installing the back cover.

The visitor's image is displayed on the screen when you press a large button on the indoor unit or when you press the call button on the external (and you also hear a loud call, in the settings you can select one of the four ringtones). The screen turns on 4 seconds after pressing the button. It is quite long and not very convenient.

When you press the bell button or press the button on the indoor unit again, the image is recorded on the MicroSD memory card. At additional pressing of the button on the internal block additional frames are recorded. Image size 320x240 pixels, JPG format. Eyes can record not only a photo, but also a video (3, 5 or 10 seconds), but I do not see much point in this.

The device has a 128 megabyte card installed. This is quite enough, because the size of each image is an average of six kilobytes and about twenty thousand images fit on the card. For each date, a separate folder is created, files are placed in it, the name of which is formed from the date and time of the shooting.

The viewing angle of the camera is significantly narrower than that of a regular eye. That is how the image looked in the usual eye.

And this is a frame from the memory card of the electronic peephole.

But the viewing angle and it was not worth doing more - in the pictures would not be visible faces. As seen in the picture, the image is dark. There is an infrared light, but it turns on only in the dark. If you glue the sensor with a small piece of black electrical tape, the infrared light always turns on, and the picture looks like this.

The device is powered by three "finger" AA batteries. I measured the current consumption.
When displaying an image from a camera, GlazOK consumes 120 ma, while viewing pictures and settings - 70 ma, in standby mode - 1.4-1.5 ma. Thus, good alkaline batteries last for 2.5-3 months. If desired, the eye can make external power from charging from any mobile phone.

To view the pictures and controls at the bottom of the case there are three buttons - left, right and OK. A large center button is used as the “back” button.

I shot a small video demonstrating the work of the peephole:

In conclusion, the pros and cons of the device "Eye":

Pros:
• Fits into the place of an ordinary eye in five minutes.
• Does not require external power
• Writes images to microSD card
• Call function
• Infrared light in the dark

Minuses:
• It is very inconvenient to change batteries and remove the memory card.
• It is not obvious to the visitor that the small button on the peephole is a bell
• Low image quality, low resolution of images on the map
• High price
