Google reported on the fight against pirated links in the search results

Many of us at least once when searching for something on Google (for example, searching a movie by title) came across a message that the material was deleted at the request of the copyright holders (to be honest, I don’t remember the exact wording). It is clear that the corporation has to remove many thousands of such links - after all, the right holders are not joking, they can condemn for non-compliance with legal requirements. It turns out that company employees have to remove many hundreds of thousands of such links.

The other day, "Corporation of Good" has provided a regular report , which shows the true dimensions of such filtering of pirated links. Only in the last month, for example, the corporation had to remove more than a million links to resources with pirated materials (films, music, games, etc.).

A request for the removal of a link can be made on a special page, a section created by Google for working with copyright holders. According to the company, after opening such a section, more applications are received in a week than were submitted in 2009. It is clear that not all complaints are fulfilled, but the corporation is obliged to fulfill the legal (recall the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA)) requirements.

I don’t know how company employees cope with such a volume of applications (it’s clear that there are too many employees, but there are hundreds of thousands of references and they need to be checked when evaluating the legality of the removal requirement), but the average interval between the deletion application and the deletion itself is 11 hours Agree, the result is impressive.

An interesting nuance is that now the company will publish detailed information about the deleted materials, showing who and why demanded the removal of a particular link. According to experts, this innovation may not really like the copyright holders, but there's nothing you can do - all according to the law. By the way, this month the most active copyright holder, who demanded to remove the largest number of links from the search results, was Microsoft.
