Dragon SpaceX successfully reached the ISS

Today at 17:56 MSK, the first private spacecraft reached the International Space Station and was captured by the Canadarm2 manipulator.

At 20:02 MSK there was a successful docking with the Harmony module of the American segment.

On board the ship is 520kg of payload, including the NanoRacks Module 9 - installation for research in the field of microgravity.



The mission, bearing the name COTS Demo Flight 2, was originally scheduled for 2010, but because of the internal difficulties of SpaceX, and later NASA, was postponed several times. The last launch was originally scheduled for May 19, but automation stopped the preparation process for half a second before launch due to increased pressure in one of the engines of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle.

The launch was successfully implemented on May 22 at 11:44 MSK.



The Dragon project is being commissioned by NASA, in order to replace the Space Shuttle closed program.
