Free Visual Studio 11 will only work with Metro UI

The main task of Microsoft with Windows 8 is to create a new paradigm of applications that would be controlled by gestures, would be full-screen and in line with Metro-design. According to rumors, Windows developers who wish to work on applications with Metro UI will still be able to use the free version of Visual Studio 11 Express, however, those who wish to continue creating desktop programs will probably have to pay a lot for this privilege.

According to the site Ars Technica , free environment Visual Studio 11 Express will allow programmers to create applications only in Metro-design (and sites), without allowing any desktop design. Until now, developers were completely free to choose Visual C ++ 2010 Express or Visual C # 2010 Express to create arbitrary programs, or upgrade to Visual Studio 2010 Professional or other editions.

In accordance with the new Microsoft policy, the only choice for “future generations” of desktop application developers will be Visual Studio 11 Professional for $ 400-500 (well, or outdated environments of the 2010th edition).

More interestingly, Microsoft will probably also remove compilers from the Windows SDK for Windows 8, so developers will not be able to create desktop applications outside of Visual Studio. However, they write that students will still be able to see Visual Studio 11 Professional under the Microsoft DreamSpark program.
