Maximum practice, minimum formality: PHDays 2012 program published

Very soon the International Forum Positive Hack Days 2012 will take place at the Digital October technocenter in Moscow. We prepared this event for a whole year, collected all the most relevant and interesting information security issues and tried to take into account the preferences of the community representatives, so that the forum was interesting for everyone - from programmers to CIO.

Today we present to your attention the final program PHDays 2012. It consists of two large blocks connecting theory and practice - the conference and the competitive program.

The conference includes:

• business seminars - discussions with the world's leading experts, in which the most acute problems of information security are discussed;
• technical workshops targeted at a more specialized audience will be conducted by authoritative expert practitioners;
• master classes : online, under the guidance of well-known Russian and foreign experts, you can gain practical experience in solving various IS tasks (read about it in our habratopic !);
• Reports on various IS issues (and not only) will be presented by leading professionals such as Bruce Schneier, Datuk Mohd Nur Amin, Travis Goodspid, Alexander “Solar Designer” Peslyak, Merci Shelley (Alexey Andreev), Mikhail Emelyannikov.

Competition program:

• CTF - international competition for the protection of information, held on the principle of the game Capture the Flag;
• Young School - research competition of students, graduate students and young scientists;
• Hack2own is a contest that will allow participants to demonstrate skills in security analysis and hacking of mobile devices (based on Apple iOS, Android), the most common Internet browsers and operating systems (the ability to exploit the vulnerabilities of current versions of the OS kernel); the details are in our habratopic ;
• Online HackQuest is a competition closely adjacent to the CTF: participants will have the opportunity to work with a lot of real vulnerabilities and try their hand at solving small tasks on information security, and also to influence the CTF storyline;
• “Fill-in” : participants will need to conduct a successful attack on a web application protected by a security filter; every 5 minutes, the participants to whose actions the filter most often reacted will have to drink 50 ml of tequila.

There are many surprises for the forum guests. In the framework of the section “How do they protect money?” A competition will be held, in which participants will be asked to “hack” the remote banking system of a fictional bank in real time and withdraw money from it. At the second stage of the competition, the task will be more difficult: participants will be asked to hack the same RB System after PHDays CTF 2012 international information security competitions, held as part of the forum, work on its protection. The PHDays CTF 2012 teams include specialists from Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, the USA, Tunisia, France and Japan; This will allow you to find out which country is best prepared to protect its banks.
