Iran sues Google

Iran has announced its intention to sue Google for removing the Persian Gulf designation from Google Maps.

According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast, if the inscription is not restored, Google will suffer “serious damage”. According to him, Tehran has already notified the search engine of a possible lawsuit.

“Erasing the name of the Persian Gulf is the same as playing with the feelings of the Iranian people,” Ramin Mehmanparast said. Google’s actions, by the way, provoked a protest from both the official authorities and ordinary citizens of the country.

Now the water area separating Iran and the Arabian Peninsula has no name at all:

When exactly the inscription "Persian Gulf" disappeared from Google Maps is unknown.

The lack of marking on the maps is connected with disagreements between the Arabs and the Iranians - they call the waters separating them the Arabian and Persian Gulf, respectively.

The searcher denies all charges and claims that the bay did not have a name from the very beginning of the existence of electronic maps.
