Comstar-UTS and MTU-Intel announce Stream brand development strategy

Comstar-United TeleSystems and MTU-Intel announce the launch of a project to bring broadband access services (the Stream Internet trademark) and pay television (the Stream TV trademark) to the regional level. Already this year, it is planned to start providing services to Stream on the basis of subsidiaries and affiliates of Comstar-United TeleSystems.

Starting from the second half of 2006, Tyumenneftegazsvyaz, a subsidiary of Comstar-UTS, will start providing Stream Internet services in the Tyumen region, and next year Stream TV. Investments in the development of the project of broadband access in the Tyumen region in 2006-2007 make $ 3.5 million

The next stage will be the launch of services under the Stream brand in Tolyatti, Saratov and Sochi. Services in these regions will be promoted through the construction of radio access networks in the 5 GHz band. Until the end of 2006, 80% of the territory of these cities will be covered. The provision of Stream services in Tolyatti, Saratov and Sochi will begin in late 2006. In addition, at the moment Comstar-United TeleSystems is considering the possibility of bringing the Stream brand to the St. Petersburg market.

In order to ensure more effective communication of the Stream brand, in June of this year, MTU-Intel CJSC will be renamed Stream CJSC. At the same time, the product line is being built: Stream Internet, Stream TV, Stream Business, under which all broadband access services of the Comstar-UTS group of companies will be provided. Thus, the unification of the product line will provide an opportunity to concentrate all the massive sales under the Stream brand, and Comstar-UTS will concentrate on working with the high-yield corporate segment. To this end, from May 2006, MTU-Intel will begin the independent distribution and sale of Comstar Dial Public cards.

“Today the Stream product is very popular among metropolitan consumers. MTU-Intel has a leading position in the broadband Internet access market with a share of more than 39%. And we want to replicate the successful Moscow experience on regional markets, ”says Semyon Rabovsky, General Director of Comstar United TeleSystems. “And the transformations in the framework of rebranding should ensure the ease of identifying a company and its services, as well as contribute to increasing market share in the corporate segment due to the fame of the Stream brand in the market of private users.”
