Developers from OpenSignalMaps have visualized
statistics on the downloads of their application for monitoring network traffic. For six months, it downloaded 681900 Android devices from 195 countries of the world.
The picture turned out beautiful: 3997 models of various Android devices were registered. The most popular is the GT-i9100 (Galaxy SII), 61389 users.
Such a large variety is partly due to the fact that the user can change the value of android.build.MODEL when changing the firmware. Not surprisingly, the 1363 “models” in the OSM sample is found only once, some with beautiful names like Lemon P1, Energy Tablet i724 and EBEST E68.

599 different brands were registered (again, you need to make a discount on artifacts in connection with the flashing). The net winner here is Samsung with 270144 devices, i.e. about 40%.

A variety of API versions eventually becomes more and more, which is quite natural - some users with older versions of the system do not upgrade.

There are also screen resolution statistics.

The frequency of different resolutions.

Weighted average frequency to show the most popular.

For comparison, here are all kinds of iPad and iPhone screens.

According to the developers of OpenSignalMaps, fragmentation of Android devices makes it difficult to create applications for this platform, but there's nothing you can do.
