Infinite scrolling, as a dubious interface improvement
In this mini-review of the pros and cons, I would like to once again raise the holivar to understand why, after all, many web services use the so-called “infinite scroll” instead of the usual and understandable organization of page navigation.
Minuses
There is no understanding of the entire amount of information (so how much do I still need to flip through this damn scroll to get to the end!?)
Most of the load on the browser interface, because of what the brakes start to occur when the scroll becomes huge
Because there is no division into conditional elements of information, that is, a page, I cannot begin to read all this footcloth from the place I need (I still don’t understand why the same tweeter, VKontakte, etc., were not implemented. preserving the scrolling state, that is, it happened when scrolling, for example, 5 additional content downloads, so yopta , save this data in the URL hash or somewhere else so that after reloading the page I got to the right place)
The scrolling of the page itself does not always work correctly, at the moment when “it has not yet reached the end, but a new download has already started,” that is, the scroll eventually jumps to a greater value than it was before uploading.
It’s hard to get to the footer, where links and other important information can be found.
pros
Only the necessary content is loaded, hence less load on the server (in fact, it shouldn’t concern the user at all)
Faster loading additional content, what would reload the new page (which, incidentally, does not interfere with making Ajax paginator)
We do not force the user to think, that is, to perform unnecessary actions, in this case, to look for a link to the next page
The ability to find something on the page using Ctrl + F from the entire volume of the uploaded content (on the other hand, I suspect this feature is not very much in demand for most users, and if it is in demand, you can make a separate link “all entries”)
')
In general, I ask in the comments, maybe I missed something and many will express their user experience from using such an infinitely annoying scroll.
