Cows in the clouds

The world's population has already exceeded 7 billion, and to feed such a bunch of people is not easy. So agriculture is now a big and serious business. And, like any big and serious business, it needs automation and computerization.

On May 10, the Croatian startup Farmeron received a $ 1.4 million investment. Farmeron provides cloud-based dairy farm management software. Each animal has a personal page with all the necessary information - from the nickname and photo to the schedules of milk production, weighing, prescribed medications and diet. Data is stored on feed reserves and other farm property, and convenient reports are generated. Enterprise version provides integration with milking machines and ERP-systems that are used on large farms. There is even a social network for farmers. Subscription costs from 25 cents per month for a cow.

Farmeron founder Matthew Kopich grew up on a farm and from childhood has been familiar with farming work. Despite the fact that farms are now widely used modern computerized hardware to automate the main work on the care and milking, accounting and general farm management are often carried out at best in Excel, and even on paper - farmers are conservative people. A simple and clear web interface and low prices are exactly what can make them change their habits.

Farmeron already has 450 farms in 14 countries. Recently, a startup with a team of eight people entered into a partnership agreement with one of the largest German agricultural holdings - Neelsen Agrar GmbH. The potential size of the market is huge - today more than 164 million farms around the world already have access to the Internet.
