Touché - Disney's new touch technology

Frankly, I have never heard that Walt Disney has its own research unit Disney Research (and it does not study the timbre of the voice and the selection of voice acting for new cartoons). Disney Research is a serious organization that recently introduced a new touch technology that allows you to track not only the fact of touch, but also the shape of a person’s hand and body, as well as gestures.

The technology is called Swept Frequency Capacitive Sensing (SFCS) (or Touché). As mentioned above, this system is able to determine which part of the body a person has touched to the contact surface (I don’t know exactly which parts of the body Touché can determine). According to the researchers, Touché can be used in everyday life - for example, determining whether the door handle or table surface is touched (for example, the system can detect two elbows simultaneously touching the table - the student fell asleep on the pair, and the signal goes to the lecturer).

The system is able to identify any touch (even to your own body). This can be used, for example, when working with a player in his pocket, or with a cell phone. Raised one finger up - the system calls the first person listed in the contact list. Sharply lowered his hand, the conversation is over. Very comfortable, right? When testing the system, it showed 99% accuracy in determining gestures and touches to various contact pads.

It is clear that such a system should show itself well in games - after all, with such precision in defining movements, gestures and touches, interactive games will enter a new stage of development (especially if all this is combined with the same Kinect).

Touché demonstration - below. In fact, impressive.
