Full-length 3D Teleconference Cab (Star Trek Style)

Talking with a person, you can walk around him.

Professor Roel Vertegaal from the Human Media Lab at Queens University in Kingston (Canada) designed the TeleHuman booth for teleconferencing, where you can see the 3D figure of your interlocutor. Probably, the professors were inspired to watch the sci-fi series Star Trek, in which there were holographic rooms (holodeck) that “move” a person to any place with a telepresence effect.

The TeleHuman cab consists of an acrylic cylinder 1.8 meters high with a convex mirror, a 3D projector and a set of ten Microsoft Kinect controllers (six in the cabin and four in the room). A person comes inside - and the picture is projected on the outer walls of the cabin.

The most interesting way to create a 3D effect. Microsoft Kinect controllers are designed for this. They track the position of a person outside the cabin to generate a stereoscopic image for him.
