The completed contest for the development of the messenger for the social network VKontakte, the results of which are
published today, in addition to the fact that the winners shared 5 million rubles among themselves, allows us to note a rather remarkable circumstance that can be attributed not just to the “success story” but also to talent and perseverance.
The competition itself from the network of Pavel Durov had a rather narrow time frame - from March 9 to April 20. Before the end of this line, it was necessary to send a free application to the App Store, while Apple’s application approval was not required (the fact that this process could take a long time was taken into account by the organizers of the competition; it is also interesting to note that 200 people applied for participation, and sent final running application only 48). Actually, the task was formulated as follows:
It is necessary to implement the application in Objective-C using the VKontakte API in the volume described in the task . It is important to accurately reproduce the proposed aesthetics and achieve high speed of the application: the initial download, the opening of dialogs, sending messages and the smoothness of all animations. Deviations from the proposed design and functionality within the preservation of the described concept are allowed. An additional requirement for the task is the presence of Russian and English versions of the interface. The application must be compatible with all iOS devices with firmware version 4.0 and higher. Both screen formats - Retina and standard resolution should be supported.
The winner of the competition was a 21-year-old young man from St. Petersburg, Peter Yakovlev, who purchased the iPod Touch especially for the development and, in a really narrow time frame of the competition, managed to write an application that won first place. At the same time, it is curious that before the contest Peter did not know Objective C, which, of course, had to be mastered - however, the official results page hints that it could not have done without the help of senior colleagues (the winner of the fall VKontakte web design contest) . Nevertheless, as the organizers themselves say: “
Peter’s application surpasses the work of other bidders in speed, stability and attention to detail ” and the social network will continue its work with its creator.
')
It is also interesting to look at the list of advantages and disadvantages of the application of Peter:
- + high speed
- + high stability
- + smooth animation, attention to details of the interface
- + caching conversations
- + battery life support
- + presence of all functions specified in the task
- + global user search
- - no local search by dialog names
- - when sending a new message, the dialogue does not scroll down
- - for all the testing time there was one flight when working with selected contacts
- - when sending a message to a user with whom there was no dialogue, he does not appear in the list
The main prize of the competition was 2.5 million rubles.
