LG Electronics, the third largest mobile phone maker in the world, said it was abandoning the release of smartphones based on Windows Phone. During a press conference dedicated to quarterly financial results, CEO Ku Bon-joon said that there are no plans to develop new devices on the Microsoft platform, and all the nearest smartphones awaiting their announcement will be on Android. The reason for this failure was the insignificant amount of sales in the world market and the low overall share of the platform. According to Microsoft Korea, the share of Windows Phone in the global mobile OS market is about 2%. After such statements by LG's top manager, information appeared that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer intends to visit the headquarters of the Korean manufacturer for negotiations, although LG’s representatives are not officially aware of such plans. At the moment, LG is becoming the second major manufacturer, focusing exclusively on Android. The first was Motorola, which did not release devices on Windows Phone at all, even before it was acquired by Google. via Korea Herald
