Microsoft is testing the OS for the "smart home"

Microsoft is currently in the final stages of developing a new operating system that is designed to control smart devices in a smart home. This OS is a software platform designed to work with most types of home devices we know about, including household appliances and electronics (laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktop PCs, and so on).

To work you need a separate PC, which will serve as a "brain" for the entire system. According to the developers, the plug-in devices do not need to be optimized for use with the new OS. So far it is unclear whether Home OS is based on Windows, or is it a completely new OS. But it is known that this software platform is based on C # and .NET 4.0.

An interesting fact is that HomeOS has been tested over the past eight months in 12 households. Developers who are initiators of the project take part in testing. More recently, new applications and support for new devices have been added to the toolkit of this OS. The goal of the project is to create a reliable system for managing household appliances, electronics and office equipment. According to the developers, managing all of this is a difficult task, so some kind of centralized system is required, on which the complex task of monitoring and management is assigned.

So far, nothing is known about whether HomeOS will be presented as a commercial product, or it is still a purely research project. You can learn more about the project on the HomeOS homepage.
